Research Paper Rewriting and Restructuring for Author-Owned Drafts
Restructure and rewrite your own manuscript for clarity and journal fit while you retain authorship. Structural support, not ghostwriting, with honest limits.
Research paper rewriting and restructuring helps authors improve the organisation, clarity and journal fit of a draft they already wrote. The work is structural and linguistic. It is not ghostwriting. You retain authorship and responsibility for every scientific claim. Publish With Scopus is a UK-registered consultancy in London. We are not a publisher and not affiliated with Scopus or Elsevier. We do not sell authorship, invent results, or guarantee acceptance.
Rewriting versus ghostwriting: clear boundaries
Ghostwriting means producing a manuscript that is presented as if the named authors wrote it when they did not meet authorship criteria. We do not do that. Restructuring means reordering sections, tightening the argument arc, clarifying methods and results presentation, and aligning the draft with a target journal’s article type, while the research decisions and intellectual content stay with you.
- We may: propose a clearer structure, rewrite sentences for precision, flag gaps in reporting, and align headings with IMRaD or the journal’s required format.
- We will not: fabricate data, invent citations, add unearned co-authors, or submit under our name.
- You must: approve substantive wording changes, supply missing methods or numbers, and remain accountable for accuracy.
Language-focused work without deep restructuring sits under manuscript editing services and academic English editing for journal submission. Choose rewriting when the draft’s order, emphasis or article type is the main barrier.
When restructuring is the right next step
Authors often need restructuring when a thesis chapter still reads like a dissertation, when methods and results are mixed, when the introduction buries the research question, or when a journal asks for a shorter article type than the current draft. Desk editors also reject papers that bury the contribution or ignore the journal’s structure rules. See why research papers get desk-rejected for fit and framing issues that rewriting alone cannot fix (for example a wrong journal scope).
- Confirm the target article type and word limits.
- Map the current draft against the required section order.
- Move content before polishing prose, so you do not refine paragraphs you will later cut.
- Align figures and tables with the new narrative.
- Only then refine sentences and references.
What our rewriting support includes
We review your draft against the journal’s instructions, propose a section plan, restructure and rewrite for clarity with tracked or clearly marked changes as agreed, and list questions where methods or results need author input. We can combine this with journal shortlisting or submission package checks when useful. Related planning support sits on our research paper publication consultancy page.
We do not run your experiments, re-analyse primary data unless a qualified statistician on your team supplies outputs, or convert a thin abstract into a full paper without your substance. If similarity issues need ethical paraphrase of your own prior wording, that is a separate, limited task described under similarity report editing support, not a licence to recycle others’ text.
Authorship, acknowledgement and AI tools
Authors who meet ICMJE or journal authorship criteria keep authorship. Substantial language or structural help is often acknowledged per journal policy; it does not automatically create authorship for the editor. If you used generative AI while drafting, follow the target journal’s disclosure rules. We will not hide AI use you disclose to us when the journal requires a statement, and we will not use undisclosed AI to invent scientific content.
What to send us
Send the full draft, the target journal or article type if known, any reviewer or supervisor comments, and word limits. Tell us whether you need light restructuring, a full re-outline, or English-heavy rewriting of an already sound structure. We confirm scope and price before work begins.
A working sequence we often follow
- Diagnose structure against the journal’s article type.
- Agree the new outline with you before a full rewrite when the change is large.
- Restructure, then edit for clarity and consistency.
- Return a questions list for any missing scientific detail.
- You approve the version that will be submitted.
Rushing a full rewrite before journal choice can waste effort if the eventual venue uses a different template. When the outlet is still open, we keep the structure portable and note venue-specific edits separately.
Thesis chapters, multi-paper projects and co-author drafts
Thesis-to-paper work often needs restructuring rather than line edits alone: literature review length, methods detail and the contribution statement usually change for a journal audience. See thesis to paper for that pathway. When several co-authors drafted different sections, we can help unify voice and remove duplication after you resolve scientific disagreements; we do not mediate authorship disputes.
If your university requires indexed papers for graduation, rewriting supports manuscript quality only. Timelines and acceptance remain outside our control. Practical planning for that constraint is covered under PhD publication consultancy.
Limits you should expect in writing
Rewriting cannot turn an incomplete study into a complete one, cannot fix a fatal methods flaw, and cannot guarantee peer review or indexing. If the honest recommendation is major new analysis or a different article type, we will say so rather than polish a manuscript that is not ready.

Frequently asked questions
Is this ghostwriting?
No. We restructure and rewrite drafts you supply. Scientific decisions and authorship stay with you. We do not sell authorship or invent results.
Who owns the copyright in the revised text?
Authors remain responsible for the manuscript. Our role is editorial support under the scope you approve; follow your institution and journal rules on acknowledgement.
Can you write a full paper from a few bullet points?
No. We need a real draft or substantial author-supplied content. We will not fabricate methods, data or citations.
How is this different from manuscript editing?
Editing focuses on clarity and language in the existing structure. Rewriting and restructuring change organisation and emphasis when the current order is the problem.
Will you add yourself as a co-author?
No for language or structural editing alone. Authorship requires meeting the target journal’s authorship criteria.
Can rewriting fix a wrong journal choice?
It can improve fit signals, but scope mismatch needs a better venue. We may recommend shortlisting instead of endless rewrite cycles.
Do you guarantee acceptance after a rewrite?
No. Journals decide. We improve readiness and clarity within ethical limits.
Can you help after peer review asks for a major rewrite?
Yes. We can help reorganise the manuscript and response letter from your scientific decisions, without inventing new results.
Important answers
Do you guarantee acceptance or Scopus indexing?
No. Journals and indexes decide. We help with readiness, selection, submission preparation, and reviewer responses in an ethical way.
Are you a journal or publisher?
No. We are a UK-registered consultancy based in London.
Who is this for?
Professors, doctors and clinician-researchers, and PhD researchers who want practical, ethical support.
How should indexing claims be checked?
Use official sources and the publisher’s own pages. Social graphics are not enough.
